Sony has addressed the growing piracy threat on the PlayStation 3, warning that any users exploiting unauthorised or pirated software will be banned from the PlayStation Network and other services.
The company is taking legal action against George Hotz and a number of other individuals and hacking groups for releasing a jailbreak allowing users to circumnavigate PlayStation 3 security.
“Unauthorised circumvention devices for the PlayStation 3 system have been recently released by hackers,” acknowledged Sony today in a statement. “These devices permit the use of unauthorised or pirated software.
“Use of such devices or software violates the terms of the ‘System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System’ and the ‘Terms of Services and User Agreement’ for the PlayStation Network/Qriocity and its Community Code of Conduct provisions.
“Violation of the System Software Licence Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System invalidates the consumer guarantee for that system. In addition, copying or playing pirated software is a violation of International Copyright Laws,” it warned.
“Consumers using circumvention devices or running unauthorised or pirated software will have access to the PlayStation Network and access to Qriocity services through PlayStation 3 System terminated permanently.
“To avoid this, consumers must immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorised or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.”
While Sony is taking legal action against individuals, others, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation has accused the corporation of abusing the Computer Fraud act.
While the legal debate is sure to rumble on, many consider that the PlayStation 3 system has now been broken open for good, with some security experts suggesting piracy on the hardware could be worse than it is on the PlayStation Portable.

Get ready, because it’s about to get serious in Xbox Live Arcade! February and March are synonyms of a gargantuan lineup of awesome games on sale on the Xbox Live Arcade! Why do I use such weird words like gargantuan? Because the lineup is so damn good it’s just gross.
Microsoft’s game-a-week-for-five-week’s schedule dubbed “Xbox Live Arcade House Party” will kick off this February 16th with a new title in Konami’s Contra series, Hard Corps: Uprising, with a price tag of $15. The following week marks the release of Bejeweled Blitz for $10, making it the first console port of Pop Cap’s addictive puzzle game, stirring away from social networks and mobile devices.
And, get this, that HD remake of Beyond Good & Evil? Well folks, the action adventure cult hit is coming to us March 2nd for cheap 10$ which, in this writer’s humble opinion, is a pretty damn good price tag for a game of such quality.
What’s that? All of these amazing games are not enough for you? My, are you the exquisite and picky one, old chap. Well, you’re in luck, because seven days after Beyond Good & Evil HD, you can get the Xbox 360 version of the popular Diablo-esque dungeon crawler, Torchlight, for 15$.
And, finally, the XBLA House Party concludes with the fun-filled multiplayer Full House Poker which is…well, poker! What else, you dummy!? It may not be a cult hit like Torchlight and Beyond Good & Evil, but this little poker game still promises to be a very fun social multiplayer experience!
So there you have it, you’re all ready and set up to start your transition from these cold winter days into spring. In case you don’t want to get any big budget games like Bulletstorm or Marvel vs. Capcom 3, you are more than covered with digital games for February and March…although, honestly, why wouldn’t you get MvC3?

Light up your next party favors

If you're looking for a great way to make your next night time party different from all the ones that you typically attend, you should consider making it a glow in the dark or light up party. Picture a minature rave but without all the controlled substances and you will have the right idea. With some great music, novel activities and a little bit of pre-planning this can become a raging success and it won't cost all that much either. You just have to make sure that you have enough time to wait for all the supplies to arrive!
There aren't a whole lot of things that you are required to buy in order to make this party a success but we strongly reccommend a black light (if you don't already have one) as it will make all the white and neon colored objects whether they be streamers, banners or even shoelaces glow in the dark. You can also get some light up party supplies such as martini glasses and half yard glasses like you see in the picture for a very affordable price. These will serve to illuminate the drinks that you serve and for some odd reason make them look more appealing ( I don't really understand the dynamics of human psychology). When it comes to the decorations around the party, consider putting up a few white balloons with glow sticks hanging from them.
Finally, when it comes to the dancefloor, clear out some space and remove any short or breakeable objects. We know you may be feeling lazy but its best to get all that stuff out of the way so that you won't be running and tripping over all that stuff in the future. The best way to be prepared is to remove even the chairs because people tend to be very low energy when they're sitting down. Some LED party lights around the peripherals will help people navigate the area as the black light is usually not the best at illuminating everything.
If you still need some ideas for a cool activity, you should consider giving people highlighters as the mark they make will be illuminated in the black light. Hand people some white T-SHirts so they can draw on each other and the surround banners and posters that you put up!

Just a lone Zerg trying to make it in a Terran's world...LAN parties can be a great if a little nerdy event if done right. If you are reading this article then you know that in order to have a successful LAN party you should do a little bit of preparation work as sometimes things can get a little complicated when people are eager to play videogames but everyone has different equipment. Just keep a few of these tips in mind and your next LAN party will be an epic battle royale.
The first and foremost thing about LAN parties though is that when you game into the wee hours of the night or early morning, people have a tendency to get hungry so always have some good comfort food available like Pizza or hotdogs. If you don't want to do the dishes afterwards you can also pick up some party supplies cheap online and then you can really get back to gaming as soon as possible. Your party may not have all the guests show up some don't go overboard with the supplies because people are there to game anyway.
Lastly, you'll want to make sure that your equipment is going to be able to run and that everybody has the latest patch of the game. Nothing drains more time from a lan party then several people with various different types of equipment all trying to run the same game but nobody can figure out how to because you have several different versions of it. You would be surprised how quick the time flies and after everybody has eaten, they may all end up leaving.

Hooking up the Xbox 360

I had recently switched out my beat up old Xbox 360 for one of the brand new Xbox Slims that are out on the market now and I was happy that they all come with HDMI output now. I had been running the Component cables for quite some time. The only problem when I took it out of the box however was that the included cable was way too short to be able to connect comfortably to my TV. This was a major issue because not only does it slow down my gaming since I have to go and buy a new cable, it also puts uneccessary strain on my home entertainment center from the cable pulling up on the Xbox and down on the TV.
Here's a tip if you're in the same situation and are looking for an HDMI cable. Most online sources and tech gurus will agree with me in saying that there is no reason why you should pay more for an expensive premium cable when most cheap cables and connectors will work just as well as the brand named ones. In fact there is no reason why the industry should even exist with the exception that many people are gullible and will be easily sold on paying more for a cable that supposedly gives better performance. I play Xbox quite a bit so I have gotten used to the way certain games look on my TV. When I borrowed a friend's expensive HDMI cable to compare the picture to the cheap one I got online, I noticed that there was no discernible difference between the picture or audio performance with either cables.
Now, the only difference MIGHT be that the premium cable is built from better quality materials which means that it can withstand more pulling and plugging that a cheap cable might not be able to. If you are constantly setting up and breaking down your home entertainment system, then by all means purchase the more expensive ones because they are more durable. Most other cases however, the cheaper cables will usually do because once you set it up it will only sit there anyway. Good luck on your shopping and remember not to fall for the trap of the premium cables. At least not when it comes to performance anyway. I encourage you to check out more sources online but I think you'll find most will agree with me.

Being a professional video game tester is a dream job. Most gamers would love the chance to be able to play great video games and get paid for it. Unfortunately though, most gamers think that paid video game testing is too far out of reach and will remain a dream forever. Well luckily, it's not a "dream" and anybody can be a paid video game tester with the right amount of experience and guidance.
The following tips should help you get started with a career in professional video game testing.
Tip 1: Don't Wait For Jobs to Find You, Get Out There and Find Them.
Video game tester jobs are not going to fall from the sky, so you can't expect to find them with a few glances at the Sunday newspaper. Therefore, instead of just sitting around and waiting, be proactive and actually chase those high paying testing jobs.
Make a beeline straight toward the game developers and present your case, no matter how poor or excellent it might be. Let them know who you are, what you do (game tester), and why you would make a great addition to their team/project.
It's important to remember that developers aren't going to hire you on the spot; so, don't let rejection get you down. They have lots of video game testers applying for projects and jobs, which means they can literally be as picky as they want to be. With that being said, be as confident as you can and be sure to let them know of all your gaming accomplishments and deeds. They should know about what games you play frequently, what consoles you own, what communities you are apart of, and any websites/blogs you own or help operate. No matter what the gaming accomplishment, big or small, it will help with landing you a job.
Tip 2: Don't Think "Hobby with Pay", Think "Career With Benefits!"
You have to keep in mind that developers pay video game testers as part of a job. They are not paying testers to merely enjoy video games at their own expense. Therefore, when you land a testing job, don't simply play it to have fun; play it like you are earning a paycheck. Does that mean you can't have any fun? No; it simply means you shouldn't make "fun" your top priority while testing video games.
If you take each and every testing job seriously and give it your all, you should have a much more successful game testing career.
Tip 3: Know What To Expect
The biggest part of being a professional video game tester is knowing the golden rule; which is "You are paid to test games, not to play them." There may be a fine line between the two, but any real game tester will tell you that the difference is definitely there.
The subtle difference between testing and playing is, well, work. A game tester will have to do actual work, such as filing reports & filling out questionnaires; as opposed to a regular game player, who will just relax and play the game at a leisurely pace. Admittedly, the work isn't back breaking, but it is work nonetheless.
The questionnaires are the easier part of game testing, as all the video game tester has to do is answer some general questions about the game and give his/her honest opinion. The reports, on the other hand, are a bit more difficult to do. These reports need to be filed on every bug/glitch that the tester comes across, and they have to be remarkably accurate. In each report, the video game tester has to describe what happened, where it happened, and how it happened. With this detailed information in hand, the developers & programmers will then fix the problem and find out why it happened in the first place. Every video game goes through this basic cycle, which is precisely why video game testers are so vital to the gaming industry.
As you can see, there really isn't all that much work involved with video game testing, but that doesn't mean it isn't a serious profession.
Tip 4: Build up a Network of Reliable Contacts.
Networking is a crucial part of professional video game testing. Although it is quite possible to have a prosperous career without a reliable network, having one just makes things easier.
A network of contacts can actually help your career in many different ways. The biggest thing it can do is give you heads up about new job openings and testing assignments that have been announced. Also, some of your contacts can even act as valuable references when applying for testing jobs. And, as if those two things weren't enough, your network can give you the inside scoop about what's going on behind closed doors.
Much like a video game tester job, a reliable network is not going to just jump out at you. Therefore, you will have to build it up all on your own. The best way to do that is by getting to know the industry and the people who work in it. Anyone that spends time around video games (professionally, of course) can be included in your network; game testers, developers, programmers, concept artists, art designers, graphics designers, technical support specialists, audio specialists, etc. Basically, if they know video games and work with video games, you want them in your network.
Tip 5: Don't Give Up. Keep Trying!
The unfortunate fact is that you are not going to land a video game tester job whenever you want one. As a matter of fact, it may be weeks or even months before you land your first testing job. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have what it takes; it just means you have to keep trying & giving it your best. Not many newcomers start off at the top of their game, which means you likely won't either. Hence, just give it time. After a few months and a few jobs, you should be able to get your footing and begin advancing in your career as a professional video game tester.
